Local activities
Beyond the orchard the little wooded hills rise gradually into bigger wooded ridges running south to the border. By the time they reach the border they are around five thousand feet high and the forest is broken only by rivers lakes and alpine style meadows. There are many marked (and unmarked) walks and bike rides all around (bikes can be hired). The local rivers are used by canoe hiring firms. There are several birding hotspots in the region. The border with southern Germany is about thirty miles away and the Austrian border only a little further to the Southeast. Besides day trips to Prague there are some famous old towns within an hour or two of the house e.g. Ceske Budejovice (original Budweiser) where you can visit the brewery and Krumlov a European Heritage town on the Vltava. Old mansion houses and castles which can be visited abound, the nearest is only seven kilometers Rabi Castle and it has a fabulous falconry display with Condor and Lammergeyer. The warm/ hot days and evenings are perfect for outside barbecues and book reading.
The local rivers are used by canoe hiring firms one example Otava tours tel 376 522 008 can be found on the main road at the beginning of Susice, opposite a car park and is marked by a canoe on the right hand side of the road. 2 hour trip on the river Otava will take you from Susice to Rabi. Look out for kingfishers often frequenting this stretch of river. River Vltava can be done from Vyí Brod or around Krumlov depending on the height of water and can be very good.

for a day's sightseeíng and entertainment It is possible to drive or go by bus from Strakonice and return the same day to Frymburk. The best is to buy a good guide book to Prague and follow their suggestions. So many to choose from it just depends on your preference of layout. Sometimes is good to combine a visit to or stay in Prague with a return back to Britain. If you are considering a stay overnight there are many excellent hotels to choose from. http://www.interacta.cz/accol/accolh_e.htm I found very good for hotels of different price ranges. http://guide.travel.cz/7 will start an interactive map and you can view some Prague details.
